Lady Elliot Island is a coral cay located 10km from the Australian continental shelf and situated at the southern end of Australia’s iconic Great Barrier Reef, approximately 80 kilometres north-east of Bundaberg and nestled in between Fraser Island and Lady Musgrave Island. The island is small enough to walk around within 45 minutes and offers both excellent snorkelling and to diving to 30m. At certain times of the year you can encounter resident turtles, manta rays and whales. Over 100 individual mantas have been identified at the island along with unparalleled diversity of other marine life and coral reefs being all part of the Great Barrier Reef.
The dive sites are located in two sections being east and west of the island. The eastern side is a ledge with a depth range of 10-25m and three dive sites starting named the Blowhole, an L-shaped cave with an opening at 14m that comes out of the side of the ledge at 22m. The Tubes and Hiros Cave dive sites are further along the wall to the south. You will not be disappointed diving Lady Elliot Island no matter your diving experience.
The Diving
Being close to continental shelf there are frequent, and all year round sightings, of manta rays and other pelagics. Situated in a Green Zone the waters around the island contain a myriad of reefs and bommies which support a large and growing, diverse fish population and a number of resident turtles of all types.
Lady Elliot’s experienced PADI Dive Shop staff personally escort all dives. For Certified Divers, there are scheduled daily a minimum of two boat dives and optional night dives available subject to participant numbers and weather conditions.
