Pontoon Operation - Outer Great Barrier Reef

About your day with Reef Magic Pontoon

Travel to our state-of-the-art pontoon, moored at an exclusive reef location on the Great Barrier Reef. With options to suit the entire family, you control the activities you wish to do!

Trip Overview

You get to experience the beauty of an outer reef pontoon with this full Cairns Great Barrier Reef day tour. This is a fantastic Cairns day tour option for certified divers travelling with their families and/or non-diving companions. The pontoon, Marine World, provides a stable platform from which you can snorkel, take a semi-submersible or glass bottom boat tour, visit the underwater observatory and watch the fish feeding. All included in the tour price. There’s a large resident Maori Wrasse which is always a highlight, for snorkelers and divers of all experience levels. Transfers to and from Cairns to the Marine World pontoon are provided on a large, comfortable and stable catamaran, which has an air-conditioned interior and exterior sundecks. The boat departs from Cairns around 9am and returns to Cairns around 5pm. You have up to five (5) hours at the outer reef pontoon. All equipment is included in the tour price, as is morning and afternoon tea and a hot and cold buffet lunch.

Diving Details

Although Reef Magic visits an outer reef pontoon, the scuba dives are conducted on various outer reef locations, which are accessed by a tender from the pontoon. Certified divers can book up to 3 dives and all dives are guided. For people who want to try scuba diving for the first time, introductory diving is also available. This is provided from underneath the pontoon. Introductory divers can comfortably walk into the water via a staircase and instructors provide all training and equipment, as well as taking you on your dive. Helmet diving is also available.

You can but it is 65km’s (90 mins) in a bus from Cairns to Port Douglas and return. If you are staying in Cairns or the Northern Beaches of Cairns (Trinity Beach, Palm Cove, Kewarra Beach) we would advise you to travel on a Cairns based boat such as Reef Magic. It makes no sense having to get up extra early & extend your day when you can relax over breakfast and spend more of your day at the reef, not in a car or bus.
You can, however we don’t offer coach transfers therefore we would recommend you travel with Calypso Reef Cruises our Sister company based in Port Douglas.
