Learning to scuba dive in Cairns is a fantastic choice! The dive operators are professional and extremely experienced at teaching people from around the world, how to scuba dive. There’s many different learn to dive courses available in Cairns, one of which is the 5 Day Open Water Course.

This course does not require any previous diving experience. To participate you must be over 12 years of age, able to swim and of reasonable fitness. The 5 Day Open Water Course is provided by a few different operators, so you can choose the package that suits your budget and itinerary.

Quick Question: Why should I book a 5 Day Course over a 4 Day Course? The 5 Day Course is essentially the same as the 4 Day Course, except it includes one more day and night on the Great Barrier Reef. This means you have more time for diving and exploring the reef as a certified diver, with your dive buddy (rather than instructor). There is also the option to extend for an additional day / night and upgrade your Open Water to Advanced Diver certification: see more on this in the notes below.

One these days, accommodation and meals are at your own expense. Dive manuals and equipment is provided to you.

The next three (3) days and two (2) nights are spent on the Great Barrier Reef, completing your dive training and certification, before enjoying free time to scuba dive as a certified diver. The 5 Day Open Water Course also provides you with the opportunity to participate in some guided night dives, which are a real highlight for many people.
