Lady Musgrave Island diving offers some of the best conditions on the Southern Great Barrier Reef. The lagoon is home to turtles and an abundance of fish and colourful corals and clams. We’re talking shallow coral gardens, swim throughs and coral bommies. While the drop off on the southern side, is often home to flying manta rays, reef sharks and more.
Lady Musgrave Island is a 44 acre coral cay, in a lagoon covering 3,000 acres. It's a nesting site for Loggerhead and Green Turtles and an important habitat in the southern Great Barrier Reef. Open to visitors at various times throughout the year. Explore and/or camp on this coral cay.
Lady Musgrave Island diving can be booked as a day trip or liveaboard experience. There’s a wealth of dive sites to enjoy, including Manta Ray Bommie, Napolean’s Wall and The Drop-off. This is one of the most southern dive locations on the Great Barrier Reef. Coastal townships are Bundaberg or 1770.
Turtles are a feature of almost of every Lady Musgrave Island diving trip. The island is a breeding ground for Green and Loggerhead Turtles, who come ashore between November and January to lay their eggs. The sheltered lagoon provides a perfect nursery for the baby turtles, which emerge each year between January and March.
Other critters you may encounter during a Lady Musgrave Island diving trip include, but are not limited to, reef sharks, manta rays, parrotfish, sea snakes, anemonefish, moray eels, stingrays, starfish, dolphins and even Humpback Whales (seasonal).
