YONGALA Wreck Day Trip - 2 Dives
About the SS Yongala
The SS Yongala is a national historic site and lies within the beautiful Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. The artefacts, marine life and variety of corals that cover the wreck are spectacular. Its a dive experience you will remember for the rest of your life!
The S.S Yongala sank during a cyclone in 1911 with the loss of all on board. It was not until 1958 that the wreck was discovered and due to its remote location it has remained mostly untouched.
The wreck begins 14m below the surface and extends to 29m. Since it is the only reef structure in the region, the marine life gathers at the wreck providing for an unforgettable diving experience! Depending on weather conditions divers encounter moderate currents and a choppy surface.
