Advanced Open Water Course

Take your diving to the next level aboard the Scubapro liveaboard, exploring the spectacular Great Barrier Reef — the ultimate classroom filled with vibrant coral gardens, diverse marine life, and ideal year-round diving conditions.

Build confidence and refine your skills over five training dives: three core dives — Deep (up to 30m), Underwater Navigation, and a thrilling Night Dive — plus two elective dives such as Enriched Air, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Underwater Naturalist, or Underwater Photography.

Courses are tailored with your instructor onboard and can be completed over two or three days, depending on your schedule. Completing your Advanced Course on a Pro Dive Cairns liveaboard gives you additional fun dives to hone your skills while exploring some of the world’s most breathtaking reef sites.

Enriched Air (Nitrox) Specialty

Enhance your diving with the Nitrox Specialty Course from Pro Dive Cairns. This short course combines simple theory with two dives and offers key benefits:

  • Reduced nitrogen load, helping you feel less fatigued
  • Shorter surface intervals, perfect for multi-dive days

3-Day / 2-Night Great Barrier Reef Liveaboard

Join Pro Dive Cairns for an unforgettable 3-day, 2-night liveaboard adventure aboard Scubapro. Wake up to turquoise waters, enjoy up to 11 dives (including night dives), and experience the Great Barrier Reef like never before. Between training dives, you’ll have time for fun dives, relaxation, and incredible encounters with the reef’s marine life.

Course Prerequisite – Open Water Certification

Diving Information

You will have access to a selection of 19 outer reef dive sites on four magnificent reefs Flynn, Thetford, Milln and Pellowe Reef. Diving at different times throughout the day, you will be able to encounter an amazing diversity of marine life including giant clams, sea turtles, stingrays, reef sharks, an incredible variety of tropical fish, spectacular coral formations with consistent underwater visibility. Night diving will introduce a whole new dimension of nocturnal life.

The instructors at the Great Barrier Reef dive centers are known for their exceptional professionalism, extensive experience, and passion. Facilities are well-equipped with modern gear, comfortable boats, and thorough safety protocols, ensuring a seamless diving experience. Located on the doorstep of one of the world’s most biodiverse ecosystems, the Great Barrier Reef offers unparalleled access to vibrant coral gardens, dramatic drop-offs, and abundant marine life.

Important Information – Dive Medical

Before commencing your PADI Advanced Open Water course, you are required to complete the self-assessment Continuing Education Student Diver Medical Declaration. A positive response to any question indicates there is a pre-existing condition which may affect your safety while diving and you must consult a medical practitioner, preferably with experience in diving medicine, to obtain a dive medical certificate that states you are medically fit to dive. If you are required to complete a dive medical this must be completed within 90 days of starting your dive course.

FAQ

Your safety and comfort is our number one priority. Please let our experienced instructors know if you are worried, stressed or not feeling well at any point. Before commencing your advanced open water/nixtrox course, you are required to complete the self-assessment Continuing Education Student Diver Medical Declaration. A positive response to any question indicates there is a pre-existing condition which may affect your safety while diving and you must consult a medical practitioner, preferably with experience in diving medicine, to obtain a dive medical certificate that states you are medically fit to dive. To obtain a copy of the Continuing Education Student Diver Medical Declaration. The medical must be completed within 12 months of starting your dive course. We recommend that you do not fly within 24 hours of diving. The earliest you should fly is 12 pm (midday) on the day after your trip concludes.
The liveaboard portion of this course is fully refundable up until 48 hours before departure. The E-learning portion is non-refundable. Dive in Australia honours Pro Dive's cancellation/Refund policy. We recommend that all customers have travel insurance.
A Government Environmental Management Charge, Port Departure Tax and administration fee are included in your total fare. The breakdown of cost is provided in the rates table.
