About your course
This Sydney-based Open Water Scuba Diving Course blends online theory with hands-on training in both pool and ocean environments. Designed to qualify you to dive up to 20 meters, this course leads to the globally recognised Open Water Scuba Diver certification.
Course Structure
Online Theory & Exam
Before your practical training begins, you’ll complete 3-4 hours of online learning, covering essential dive theory. A theoretical exam follows to ensure your understanding.
Swimming Competency Test
To participate, you’ll need to complete a simple swim test:
- 200-meter swim (any stroke, no time limit)
- 10-minute water tread
Pool Training in Sydney
Your first in-water experience starts in a controlled pool environment, where you’ll learn and practice fundamental scuba diving skills with your instructor.
Open Water Ocean Dives
Next, you’ll take your skills to the stunning Sydney coastline for four open water dives. These dives build on your pool training while introducing real-world diving techniques, ensuring you’re comfortable and confident underwater.

- Payable directly to the pool on entry
Transport
- Transport Available as part of Membership ($50)
- If our transport option is full, you must have access to your own vehicle.
- Due to the location and schedule of the course, you will not have access to public transportation
Cost of Dive Medical (if required)
- Some medical conditions may prevent you from diving. For example: heart disease, asthma, or epilepsy.
- Please inform us prior to reservation if you suffer from any medical condition that may affect your diving.
Full Itinerary
Your online training and quizzes must be completed online prior to the course commencement. Please allow approximately 4 hours to complete online training. This will be issued after a confirmation of your booking is received during business hours and an email will be sent letting you know how to access it.

Weekday Course
- Monday 18:30 – 21:30 (Meet at Pro Dive Alexandria, 184 Bourke Road, Alexandria 2015)
- Evening course orientation, meet & greet, online training review, gear sizing, and exam
- Tuesday 07:00 – 18:00**
- Confined water training + swim test
- Ocean Dives 1 (& 2 if time permits)
- Wednesday 07:00 – 17:00**
- Ocean Dives 2 (if not completed previously), 3 & 4
- Certification BBQ
Weekend Course
- Friday 18:30 – 21:30 (Meet at Pro Dive Alexandria, 184 Bourke Road, Alexandria 2015)
- Evening course orientation, meet & greet, online training review, gear sizing and exam
- Saturday 07:00 – 18:00**
- Confined water training + swim test
- Ocean Dives 1 (& 2 if time permits)
- Sunday 07:00 – 17:00**
- Ocean Dives 2 (if not completed previously), 3 & 4
