About your dive on the SS Yongala Shipwreck
Yongala Shipwreck Dive departing from Alva Beach AYR. Yongala Dive specialise in dive trips to the Yongala Shipwreck and the Outer Barrier Reef. This operator is located the closest to the wreck, which means less time travelling and more time in the water. Trips run regularly however they are subject to weather conditions on the day and passenger numbers.
Yongala Dive limits passenger numbers to just 12 people, to ensure personalised service and attention.
Overview of your day
- Everything about the Yongala Dive day trip is an adventure.
- Check-in at the dive shop at 7.30am
- Travel time from Alva Beach to the wreck site is only between 30 to 40 minutes.
- Once returned to the dive centre crew put on a Aussie BBQ.
- If you require a transfer to AYR to catch a Greyhound Coach or train is available. Transfers from 2.30pm
- For your convenience, Yongala Dive also provides onsite accommodation – Dorm share bed form $40.00 (per night)
- This is a very popular dive and should be booked in advance.

Diving Details
Diver’s Experience Requirements
- Trips to the wreck are for certified divers only. This dive is considered a deep dive with a maximum depth of 29 metres.
- You must have a minimum of Open Water certification with 6 logged dives and dived within 6 months.
- Divers with only Open Water certification – You will need to book the PADI Adventure Training Dive to make the dive (Extra Charges apply – $25.00)
- The Deep Dive Speciality dive can go towards a PADI Advance Open Water Course. (Enquiry when make booking)
- Divers with less than 20 dives who have not dived in the last 6 months maybe required to complete a refresher course.
- Experienced dive guides are available at no extra cost for this dive.

Itinerary
- 7.30am – Meet at the Dive Shop
- 8.00am – Dive Briefing
- 8.30am – 4WD trip to beach for boat launch
- 9.00am – Arrive at the wreck
- Complete two dives with one hour surface interval
- 1.30pm – Return to Dive Shop
