Yongala Shipwreck Dive Alva Beach AYR. Yongala Dive specialise in dive trips to the Yongala Wreck and the Outer Barrier Reef. This operator is located the closest to the wreck, which means less time travelling and more time in the water. Trips run daily however they are subject to weather conditions on the day and passenger numbers.

Yongala Dive limits passenger numbers to just 12 people, to ensure personalised service and attention. There’s no restricted bottom time, so dive time depends on your air consumption, experience level and depth.

Overview of your day

Everything about the Yongala Dive day trip is an adventure. It begins with a 4WD transfer to the beach, followed by a short 30-minute transfer to the wreck and time for two (2) dives with a minimum one (1) hour surface interval. When the diving is done, it’s back to Yongala Dive for an Aussie BBQ. The Yongala is an adventure dive and as such there’s some strict diver requirements. You must at a minimum have an Open Water certification and at least 6 logged dives. Divers with less than 20 dives must be guided.

This Yongala day dive tour commences with check-in at the dive ship at 7.30am and finishes with a coach transfer to Ayr, for a 3.25pm bus(if required). For your convenience, Yongala Dive also provides onsite accommodation.

This is a very popular dive and should be booked in advance.

Diving Details

Diver’s Experience Requirements

Yongala Dive trips are for certified divers only. There’s a maximum of 2 dives, per day trip. You must have a minimum of Open Water certification with 6 logged dives. This dive is considered a deep dive with a maximum depth of 29 metres.  It is possible to make the dive if you only hold your Open Water certification.

You will are required to book on to complete the PADI Deep Dive Speciality.

An additional $25.00 for the Deep Dive Speciality applies. (NB: You can have the dive make up as your Deep Dive for the PADI Advance Open Water Course. Additional costs apply)

Divers with less than 20 dives who have not dived in the last 6 months maybe required to have a refresher course. This can be provided the day before the dive, ask us for more information.

Divers with Advanced certification are provided with an experienced dive guide, at no extra cost. Experienced divers with more than 50 dives may be able to dive unguided with their buddy, after an initial orientation.

Maximum depth is 29m for the first dive and 25m for the second dive. A minimum one (1) hour surface interval. Decompression diving is not allowed and Nitrox is available for those with appropriate certification. You will need to bring your certification card and log book.

  • All trips are numbers & weather dependent and are confirmed the afternoon prior to the trip
  • Travel Insurance is recommend to cover any losses due to possible cancellations\
  • There is a 48hr change and cancellation policy for all bookings – no changes or cancellations
    can be made within 48hrs of the dives. Full payment for the trip will be deducted if customers cancel within the cancellation policy and we can’t find a replacement diver.

Itinerary

  • 7.30am – Meet at the Dive Shop
  • 8.00am – Dive Briefing
  • 8.30am – 4WD trip to beach for boat launch
  • 9.00am – Arrive at the wreck
  • Complete two dives with one hour surface interval
  • 2.00pm – Return to Dive Shop

Please Note: some medical conditions may prevent you diving and you will be required to complete a waiver and medical statement prior to the trip. If you have recently/continue to suffer from an illness or condition that may affect your dive fitness, or currently taking any prescription medication, you will need to consult a doctor for a 'fit to dive' medical certificate. Examples include but are not limited to; diagnosed asthma, brain/ spinal cord or nervous disorder, chest surgery, chronic bronchitis or sinus condition, lung problems, current cold, cough, flu, chest infection, diabetes, ear problems, epilepsy (unless you have a certification and trained buddy for this condition), fainting or seizures, heart problems, Tuberculosis, high or low blood pressure, any non over the counter medications including those for the treatment of anxiety and depression. (Exception of oral contraception). Special COVID-19 Information: The health and wellbeing of customers and staff are paramount. If any customers present to check-in with fever, coughing, sore throat, fatigue, or shortness of breath, you may be required to undergo a COVID-19 test prior to joining your trip.
Dive in Australia honours operators individual Cancellation/Rescheduling/Refund Policies. All tours traveling to the reef or dive locations in Australia are always dependent on the weather. Operators are forced to cancel trips due to extreme weather conditions. If your trip is cancelled for any reason Dive in Australia will honour the operators refund policy. A full refund will be paid if booking is cancelled outside 7 days of the departure date. Bookings cancelled within 7 days of the departure date attract a 100% cancellation fee.
