If there’s a better way to get an adrenaline hit while diving, I’m not sure what it is! Great White Sharks are majestic, intriguing and just a little bit terrifying. They are also best seen from the safety of a cage. Port Lincoln is the ‘home’ for Australia’s Great White Shark diving day trips.
You do not have to be a certified scuba diver to book or participate in a Great White Shark cage diving day trip. Why? All of the ‘dives’ are surface dives. The cage is lowered into the water and the air supply is coming directly off the boat, via a hookah (surface air supply).
Port Lincoln shark diving experiences operate nearly every day of the year. The boats depart Port Lincoln early the morning (around 7am) and return late afternoon / early evening. This means when you’re booking one of these day tours, you need to allow a minimum of two nights one day in your itinerary to participate in the tour.
If time and your itinerary and budget allows, you might want to consider extending your stay for another day just in the event you don’t see the sharks on your nominated day trip. We have also created packages combining the best of Port Lincoln. Travelling to Port Lincoln can be a bit of a track so make the most of this iconic part of South Australia.
It’s on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula and is accessible on road or by air, with Regional Express (REX Airlines) running flights from Adelaide to Port Lincoln. If you’re driving, it’s a seven (7) hour drive from Adelaide, but takes in some stunning coastal scenery and is worthwhile, if you have the time. There’s also a bus service.
