Australia dive locations are as diverse as the continent itself. This great southern land is surrounded by ocean. The temperature of its water varies, as does the life and ecosystems of the underwater world. Dive in Australia are Australian dive specialists. We pride ourselves on providing advice, information and bookings for all of Australia’s great dive locations.
The most famous Australia dive location is the Great Barrier Reef. It is on the north-eastern coast of Australia, stretching along the state of Queensland. It provides warm, clear waters and an abundance of marine life, everything from the smallest damsel and nudibranch to the largest cod and groper can be found here. You can dive the reef, its islands and some wrecks. New South Wales offers temperate water diving and is home to the world’s largest cuttlefish and two species of endemic weedy sea dragons. South Australia and Western Australia provide some epic shark diving experiences, we’re talking Great Whites as well as Whale Sharks. Explore this website, which provides an online portal to the best Australia dive locations.
Cairns is the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. This tropical port city is also home to World Heritage listed rainforest. These two, world class, natural attractions, make this vibrant coastal city a must visit for divers. Day trips, liveaboard trips and learn to dive courses. Do it all.
Townsville is the administrative hub of North Queensland. It provides island and reef diving, as well as being the gateway to one of the world’s best wreck dives, the SS Yongala. This mighty wreck is a mind-blowing dive, showcasing some giants of the underwater world.
The Whitsunday Islands off Airlie Beach are all about enjoying island time and relaxing. A popular sailing destination, you can book day tours and liveaboard dive trips on sail boats. There’s also learn to dive courses. Dive around the islands and/or at a reef pontoon.
Byron Bay is on Australia’s surf coast and is a laid back beachside community. It’s also home to Julian Rocks, an amazing dive site which is best known for its population of sharks. We’re talking grey nurse, leopard, wobbegong sharks and more. Suitable for all divers.
Diving might not be the first thing you think of when landing in Sydney, but trust me, there’s lots to see in this famous harbour. Highlights include giant cuttlefish, weedy sea dragons, gropers, sharks and more. Temperate water diving. Day trips and learn to dive courses.

Australia’s whale shark diving capital. An annual migration of 300-500 whale sharks to these waters, make this one of the most reliable places on the planet to have an in-water whale shark experience. Other highlights include manta rays, Ningaloo Reef and much, much more.
Still on the western coast, Exmouth is perhaps the most accessible coastal city providing divers with access to the migrating whale sharks and Ningaloo Reef. It’s also home to one of the world’s best land dives, the Exmouth Navy Pier. Worth a visit.
Australia diving experiences showcase almost the full array of the underwater world. We’re talking tropical coral reefs and gardens, shipwrecks, ocean caves, islands and more. You can expect to see everything from the smallest nudibranch, to the largest fish in the sea (the whale shark) and everything in between.
Australia’s dive locations can be enjoyed year-round, although some experiences (such as Dwarf Minke Whales, Whale Sharks, Manta Rays and Coral Spawning) are seasonal. As such, it’s worth checking daters in advance, to maximize your Australian dive holiday.
