This expedition is designed for those seeking an intimate, in-depth Great White Shark experience — combining thrilling encounters with a deeper understanding of these magnificent animals.
As pioneers of shark diving, we operate the world’s only Ocean Floor Cage, offering qualified SCUBA divers the rare chance to observe Great Whites in their natural environment at depth. Non-divers can still enjoy incredible up-close encounters from our Surface Cage, making this adventure suitable for anyone passionate about sharks and the ocean.
Whether you’re a seasoned diver, marine life enthusiast, photographer, or simply an adventurer eager to witness Great Whites in the wild, this expedition offers unmatched time in the water and expert insight into shark behaviour.
Your journey begins on the first evening with briefings and travel to our first dive site — ensuring maximum time for diving and exploration over the following days.
Across up to four full dive days, you’ll experience Great White Shark diving at both the North and South Neptune Island groups, exploring a range of sites including reefs, weed banks, and sandy bottoms.
We also dedicate part of one dive day to another South Australian icon — a snorkel with the playful Australian Sea Lions at Hopkins Island. In addition, guests can enjoy a scenic tender tour around the Neptune Islands’ fur seal colonies, and when weather permits, take part in an exclusive guided island walk, unique to Rodney Fox Shark Expeditions.
Evenings are relaxed and social, featuring delicious local food and wine, fascinating shark research talks, or a light-hearted quiz night — the perfect way to unwind after unforgettable days at sea.
Itinerary
Day 1 – Welcome, Settle In & Sea Lion Snorkel
Meet outside the Marina Hotel in Port Lincoln at 10:00 AM for transfers to the vessel. After a warm welcome, safety briefing, and time to settle into your cabin, enjoy a light lunch as we set off toward either Hopkins Island for a sea lion swim or directly to the Neptune Islands — depending on conditions and timing.
If visiting Hopkins Island today, prepare for an hour of fun with the energetic Australian Sea Lions — the playful “puppy dogs of the sea”! Snorkel or dive in shallow, sheltered waters and enjoy your first taste of South Australia’s incredible marine wildlife.
We then cruise onward toward the Neptune Islands, anchoring close to the next day’s action.
Days 2–4 – Great White Shark Diving & Island Adventures
Each morning begins with diver briefings before the cages hit the water. Our priority is ensuring everyone gets thrilling surface cage encounters before SCUBA-certified guests explore deeper in the Ocean Floor Cage.
Between dives, join wildlife excursions by tender to see long-nosed fur seals, seabirds, and — occasionally — sea lions hauled out on the rocks. When conditions allow, enjoy a special guided walk on the Neptune Islands — exclusive to Rodney Fox Expeditions.
With extended time on location, you’ll be immersed in the sights, sounds, and raw beauty of the Neptune Islands. Evenings are relaxed: unwind with a chilled glass of wine or an ice-cold beer, stargaze on deck, and rest when you’re ready. Life onboard moves to the rhythm of the ocean.
Day 5 – Final Dives & Return to Port Lincoln
With your shark-spotting skills now well-tuned, enjoy your final dives before we pack the cages away around 2:00 PM. As we cruise back, savour “wine on the bow” and a delicious local charcuterie selection — often accompanied by playful dolphins riding the wake.
Arrival into Port Lincoln is before 8:00 PM for disembarkation.
