About the HMAS Shipwreck, Grey Nurse Sharks and Flinders Reef

Scuba dive the HMAS Brisbane Shipwreck

HMAS Brisbane has been intentionally scuttled to provide a unique wreck diving experience, while also creating an artificial reef. The boat itself is 133m long and was commissioned in 1967. She served in the Vietnam and Gulf wars and was decommissioned in 2003. Scuttled in 2005, divers have the unique opportunity to explore the wreck inside and out, with access to the engine and boiler rooms. There’s wide open entry and exist swim throughs, with lots of natural light.

The Diving

Diving from Mooloolaba offers a number of different dive experiences which is great for divers wanting an array of underwater encounters and environments.  In addition to the HMAS Brisbane Wreck there is a range of offshore reef systems to explore. All are suitable for divers with Open Water certification, as dive depth does not exceed 18m and conditions are usually quite comfortable with limited swell and current.
Depending on the timing of your visit, divers might also be interested in the chance to swim with Humpback Whales and Mooloolaba is one of the few places you can experience this in Australia. This is a half day tour, catering to a maximum of 20 participants per trip. Wetsuits and snorkeling equipment is provided. Water temperatures range from 17-23 degrees and visibility can be up to 30m.
