Every year during June and July, Dwarf Minke Whales migrate through the northern Great Barrier Reef, creating a rare opportunity to encounter these majestic whales in their natural environment. Experience swimming alongside these wild and curious giants as they glide past, make eye contact and often circle back for another look. These encounters happen because the whales choose to investigate us — not the other way around.
OceanQuest is a premium liveaboard designed for both adventure and comfort. Every cabin features a private ensuite, while spacious sundecks and dedicated viewing areas provide plenty of opportunities to relax between whale encounters. The large dive deck offers easy access to the water for diving and snorkelling on the pristine Ribbon Reefs.
With an experienced onboard chef, you’ll also enjoy freshly prepared meals throughout your expedition, with dietary requirements catered for.

OceanQuest has 18 twin cabins and four double cabins. All cabins are air conditioned with en suite bathrooms.
PADI Advance Course – $320.00
PADI Nitrox Course (Must be a certified diver) – $295.00

Ribbon Reefs including Steve’s Bommie, Lighthouse Bommie, Pixie’s Pinnacle, Clam Garden, Challenger Bay and more (dependent on conditions)
Day 1 – Check in and board Ocean Quest. Dive the Outer Barrier Reef with two daytime dives, an afternoon dive, and a night dive before cruising overnight to the Ribbon Reefs.
Day 2 – Enjoy four dives, including the iconic Steve’s Bommie, renowned for its vibrant marine life.
Day 3 – Dive the Ribbon Reefs, including Lighthouse Bommie, famous for Minke whale encounters, with four dives throughout the day.
Day 4 – Explore more remote Ribbon Reef sites with four dives before cruising overnight back to Cairns.
Day 5 – Breakfast onboard before returning to Cairns at approximately 9:00 am.
Itinerary and dive sites are subject to weather and sea conditions and may be adjusted to maximise Minke whale encounters.
