The Rescue Diver course is a crucial step in your diving education and is highly recommended to all divers.
Having completed my Rescue Course with Pro Dive Cairns I can certainly say it took my dive skills and confidence to the next level. Not only do you feel more confident in your own capabilities scuba diving and in the ocean but being able to help other divers was very gratifying.
It’s a transitional stage in your diving education where you move beyond just diving for fun by expanding your knowledge of some of the more technical aspects of diving as well as learning rescue and emergency skills. Throughout this course you will come to appreciate and understand the importance of this training relevant to diver safety and incident minimisation and management.
Pre-requisite for this course is a Advanced Open Water certificate or the equivalent rating with another training agency.
You will also require a current First Aid certificate. (We can assist you in obtaining your First Aid + CPR certification)
The 1 day of pool and classroom training allows you to prepare for the ocean scenarios as part of your dive course.
Having the benefit of a 3 Day / 2 Night Liveaboard trip offers you a greater range of rescue scenarios while still logging up to 10 dives on a variety of spectacular outer reef locations. These dives consist of a combination of training and recreational dives.
Rescue scenarios include being competent in managing a missing diver, panicked diver, unconscious diver on the surface as well as trained to deal with any emergency situation.

Facilities are well-equipped with modern gear, comfortable boats, and thorough safety protocols, ensuring a seamless diving experience. Training Centre
8:30 Classroom theory sessions
The morning is spent covering four key theory sections: self-rescue and diver stress, diving first aid and equipment, emergency management, diving equipment
13:00 Practical pool session
The afternoon is spent in the pool introducing students to the skills they will need to progress through the course. The emphasis of this session is to allow students to develop their rescue skills and techniques in a controlled environment prior to applying the new skills in an ocean environment.

7:00 Depart Cairns
Depart Cairns for 3 days and 2 nights of fantastic diving/snorkelling on The Great Barrier Reef. A light breakfast is served onboard.
11:00 Dive 1: tired diver, panicked diver, response from boat
Your first dive is before lunch
12:30 Lunch
14:30 Dive 2: tired diver, panicked diver, response from boat
Head off and discover more underwater delights. Once you have completed your dive, the vessel moves on to the next site.
16:30 Dive 3: distressed diver underwater, surfacing the unresponsive diver
After an afternoon of relaxing, it is time for your third dive of the trip

19:45 Dive 4: the night dive
We try to do the night dive at the same site as the afternoon dive, as this way you are familiar with your surroundings.
7.00 Dive 5: non swimming rescues
The vessel moves for an early morning dive. Look out for splendid gorgonian fans, giant clams and bumphead parrotfish.

After breakfast, the vessel moves on for the second dive of the day.

After lunch, it is time for your third dive.

The course amount is fully refundable up until 48 hours before trip commencement.
Some medical conditions may prevent you from diving – you will be required to obtain a dive medical certificate prior to commencing the course if you answer ‘yes’ to any of the questions on the Continuing Education Student Diver Medical Declaration (https://prodivecairns.com/pdf/continuing_student_medical.pdf).This must be valid within 12 months of commencing the course. If you do need a dive medical, we recommend that you contact a doctor who is familiar with your medical condition, preferably with experience in diving medicine, to obtain written clearance for diving (the doctor must use the words ‘fit to dive’ or complete the physician’s section of the medical form). If you wait until arrival into Cairns, your medical can be done for an additional charge.
