Embark on an unforgettable journey and learn to dive to become a certified SSI Open Water Diver aboard Summer Jo! This 3-day, 3-night liveaboard adventure offers the perfect balance of hands-on training, breathtaking outer barrier reef dives, and total immersion in the underwater world. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, you’ll learn to dive and develop the skills and confidence to explore the ocean safely, earning a globally recognised certification that allows you to dive anywhere in the world.
All dives and SSI eLearning (theory) are completed on board so all your time is spent exploring the inner and outer reefs of the Whitsunday Islands while completing you dive course. SSI Open Water Diver Course is the first recognised step in scuba diving training. You will learn the fundamentals to become a confident and capable scuba diver.
With crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs, and incredible marine life, there’s no better place to take your first breaths underwater than the stunning Whitsundays. Get ready for an adventure that will change the way you see the ocean forever!
Day 1
7.00am Pool sessions and theory review
4.30pm – Depart Airlie Beach to steam overnight to the Outer Great Barrier Reef (More time for practical and theory review with your instructor)
Day 2 and 3
Complete your 4 Ocean Dives (If time permits you will have the opportunity to experience one or two fun dives)
Day 4
Non dive day – wake up back inside the Whitsunday Islands to joy time on the iconic Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet
Requirements and General Information
Departs: 4pm – Friday
Returns: 2pm – Monday
Departure Point: Port of Airlie

Day 1 Friday 7.00am (Meet at vessel)
You will spend your morning with your dive instructor and be taken to a local swimming pool completing your confined diving skills and going over any questions on the course theory.
3.30pm check in on Summer Jo. Enjoy a relaxed evening on board, preparing for the training ahead.
Day 2 Saturday (Complete 3 Training Ocean Dives)
Practice essential scuba skills in a sheltered, confined water environment.
Master buoyancy control, mask clearing, regulator recovery, and emergency ascent techniques.
Spend the rest of the day snorkelling, relaxing, and soaking in the ocean views.
Day 3 (Complete your last Open Water Dive – All going well you will have the opportunity to participate in one or two fun dives)
Complete your four open water dives in stunning locations.
Explore vibrant coral reefs and encounter incredible marine life.
Upon successful completion, celebrate becoming an SSI Open Water Diver!
Enjoy an optional fun dive before heading back to port. A night dive may be on offer as long as you have successfully completed your dive course.
Day 4 – Wake up to the iconic Whitehaven Beach and enjoy 2 hours on the beach with a nature walk up to Hill Inlet.
2.00pm – Return to Airlie Beach/Port of Airlie Marina
By the end of this course, you’ll be an internationally recognised certified SSI Open Water Diver, ready to explore the underwater world with confidence.
