Far North Expeditions

Join Spirit of Freedom for a rare seven-night dive expedition to one of the last untouched regions of the Great Barrier Reef for a scuba diving liveaboard adventure. Departing from Horn Island in the Torres Strait, you’ll embark on an adventure spanning over 600 nautical miles, exploring both the remote Far Northern Reefs and the world-famous Ribbon Reefs.

Over five days, dive up to 26 unique sites, discovering deep oceanic walls, coral gardens, caves, and pinnacles teeming with life. Encounter sharks, rays, turtles, pelagic fish, and diverse macro life in crystal-clear waters. From October to March, witness green sea turtles returning to nest on these protected islands.

Designed for experienced divers, this expedition offers challenging yet rewarding diving in one of the most pristine marine environments on Earth.

Flights from or to Horn Island are not included.

Far East Exploration

Join Spirit of Freedom for a rare expedition to Lihou Reef and Flinders Reef, over 600km east of Cairns. Experience thriving coral ecosystems, dramatic drop-offs, and schools of pelagic fish. Weather permitting, explore Herald Cays, famous for its vibrant corals and swim-throughs, before concluding your adventure at Holmes Reef.

This is an unforgettable journey into one of the most pristine marine environments on Earth.

Itinerary

Far North Expeditions (Northbound)

Day 1: Cairns City hotel transfers begin at 3 pm, for a 4 pm departure. Briefings, dinner and overnight travel to 9 and 10 Ribbon Reefs. No diving on this day.

Day 2: Diving Ribbon 9 and 10. Opportunity to do up to 4 dives then overnight travel to Tijou Reef.

Day 3: Diving Tijou Reef. Opportunity to do 5 dives including 1 night dive, followed by overnight travel to Far North region.

Day 4: Diving Far North Region. Opportunity to do 4 dives.

Day 5: Diving Far North Region. Opportunity to do 4 dives.

Day 6: Diving Far North Region. Opportunity to do 4 dives.

Day 7: Diving Far North Region. Opportunity to do 4 dives, followed by overnight travel to Horn Island.

Day 8: Arrive at Horn Island early morning. Breakfast on board and disembark at 9 am.

Far East Exploration

Day 1: Cairns City hotel transfers begin at 2 pm, for a 3 pm departure. Briefings, dinner and overnight travel to Flinders Reef. No diving on this day.

Day 2:Diving Flinders Reef, Coral Sea. Opportunity to do up to 4 dives then overnight travel to Magdelaine Cays.

Day 3: Diving Magdelaine Cays, Coral Sea. Opportunity to do 5 dives including 1 night dive, followed by overnight travel to Lihou Reef.

Day 4: Diving Lihou Reef. Opportunity to do 5 dives including 1 night dive. Remain anchored at Lihou reef overnight.

Day 5: Diving Lihou Reef. Opportunity to do 4 dives, followed by overnight travel to Herald Cays.

Day 6: Diving Herald Cays. Opportunity to do 5 dives including 1 night dive, followed by overnight travel to Holmes Reef.

Day 7: Diving Holmes Reef. Opportunity to do 4 dives, followed by overnight travel to Cairns

Day 8:Arrive Cairns early morning.  Breakfast on board and disembark 7.30am.
