After completing your PADI Open Water certification, build your confidence and skills with the PADI Advanced Open Water Course—no exams or classroom sessions required! Simply read the relevant chapters in your PADI manual and complete the short knowledge reviews before each dive.
You’ll complete five exciting training dives, including two core dives: Deep and Underwater Navigation. Choose three additional adventure dives from options like Night Diving, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Fish ID, Underwater Naturalist, or Boat Diving.
This course takes a minimum of two days and can be completed onboard our overnight vessel OceanQuest (one or two nights), or over two day trips on SeaQuest. Either way, you’ll be diving on the incredible Great Barrier Reef—and return as a certified Advanced diver!

Full Itinerary
Day 1 – Cairns to the Great Barrier Reef
Your adventure begins with complimentary transfers from Cairns city accommodation around 7:45am. You’ll check in at Deep Sea Divers Den’s Draper Street office, settle any final payments (like the reef tax), and receive your boarding passes. From there, a short coach ride takes you to Marlin Marina.
Board SeaQuest, our fast and comfortable catamaran, and enjoy complimentary tea and coffee before departing Cairns at 8:45am. During the 90-minute journey to the outer reef, you’ll meet your PADI instructors and prepare for your first dives.
You’ll complete your first training dives on the day boat before transferring at 2:30pm to OceanQuest, your liveaboard vessel. The transfer is smooth and simple—just a short step across. Once aboard, you’ll be welcomed by the crew, assigned your cabin, and given a safety and orientation briefing.
After settling in, it’s straight back into the water for more Advanced Open Water training dives. Dinner is served at 6:00pm, followed by the optional night dive—an unforgettable part of your course. Dessert wraps up the day.
Day 2 – Great Barrier Reef Diving
Wake up to sunrise on the reef and prepare for a full morning of diving. You’ll complete up to three training dives today, including your remaining Adventure Dives. Once all performance requirements are met, you’ll be officially certified as a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver—typically by lunchtime.
If you’re on the 2 Day / 1 Night Option:
You’ll be out of the water by 11:30am. After a refreshing freshwater shower and packing up your cabin, enjoy a leisurely lunch at 12:30pm. Relax on the sundeck or in the air-conditioned lounge while awaiting the day boat transfer back to Cairns. Depart the reef at 3:00pm and arrive back around 4:30pm, with coach transfers returning you to your accommodation.
If you’re on the 3 Day / 2 Night Option:
Enjoy lunch at 12:30pm while the boat relocates to a new reef site. Spend the afternoon relaxing or diving again from 3:30pm. There’s time for more diving and snorkeling before dinner at 6:00pm. Cap off the evening with another optional night dive and a sweet dessert at 8:00pm.
Day 3 – Reef Diving & Return to Cairns
Start your final day with an early morning dive at 6:30am—perfect for witnessing the reef’s shift from night to day as marine life transitions. You can complete up to three dives today, or just relax and enjoy the surroundings.
You’ll be out of the water by 11:30am to shower and pack up before lunch at 12:30pm. Then relax on the sun deck or in the lounge until SeaQuest arrives at 2:30pm for your return trip to Cairns. Arriving back around 4:30pm, you’ll be transferred to your accommodation—ending your unforgettable 3 Day / 2 Night PADI Advanced Open Water experience with Divers Den.
