About your (4 Days/3 Nights) Great White Shark Expedition

Embarking on the exclusive Rodney Fox Great White Shark 4 Day 3 Night expedition is an opportunity tailor-made for individuals seeking an immersive encounter with Great White Sharks. This very popular 4 Day 3 Night Liveaboard trip offers you a chance to not only optimize your time at sea but also to gain in-depth knowledge about these magnificent creatures.

During this expedition, certified divers with a minimum of an open water certification can experience the world’s sole Ocean Floor Cage dive, providing a truly captivating experience with the Great Whites as they cruise around in what I like to call a more natural environment. Nevertheless, even if you aren’t a certified diver, all guests have the opportunity to intimately observe Great White Sharks up close within our Surface Cage.

This expedition is designed for a diverse range of enthusiasts – avid shark enthusiasts, seasoned divers, adventurous souls, shark photography enthusiasts, and anyone who shares our profound passion for these extraordinary beings.

Full Itinerary

Great White Shark 4 Day 3 Night – Expedition (Itinerary) – Early Departure on Day 1.

A perfect experience for those seeking an intimate encounter with Great White Sharks over a 4-day tour, aiming to maximize time at sea and gain insights into their behaviour. The world’s only Ocean Floor Cage is deployed for qualified SCUBA Divers, while all guests can engage with Great Whites up-close in our Surface Cage. An Expedition tailored for shark enthusiasts, experienced divers, adventurers, shark photographers, and those sharing a passion for these incredible creatures.

Day 1

We’ll meet you outside of the Marina Hotel, Port Lincoln at  and escort you to our vessel. Welcome aboard at 1:30PM . You’ll be shown to your cabins where you can unload before the formal introductions and safety talk. After leaving the Marina, we’ll pass through the stunning Thorny Passage, then stop off at Hopkins Island for a snorkel with the adorable puppy dogs of the seas – the Australian sea lions!  Then depending on the current weather conditions we either look to stroll onshore along local islands and beaches, or decide if it’s cruise time to the famous Neptune Islands Marine Park, anchor down and test out our dive kit for the shark diving. There is time to relax, unwind, talk about the day while feasting on the buffet, engage in the Great White Shark Research Talk (really interesting, with some fantastic photography), check out the amazing night-sky, retire to your cabin. Please note that no shark attractant is used on this day.

Day 2

Divers are briefed, and the Surface Cage hits the water, ready for action. Our priority is for everyone to see the sharks in the surface cage before we descend deeper with our SCUBA
diving guests in the ocean floor cage. We also like to hop in the tender boat, check out the Long Nosed Fur Seals and look for landing conditions to be favourable to go walking on the Neptune Islands. Here, there are many bird species to watch and the elusive Australian Sea Lions can also sometimes be spotted. More presentations in the evening and then time for bed ready for the next days big adventure.

Day 3
More time with the great whites viewing topside, in the surface cage or down on the ocean floor and by now your shark identification skills will be finely tuned. The evening brings more opportunity to immerse yourself in the beauty of the Neptune Islands, listening to the sounds of the seals with a chilled glass of white. There is plenty time to chill out and rest. Hit the hay when you feel like it. on the final night at the Neptune Islands we normally encourage all guests and crew to get into their brightest party shirt and hold Quiz Night, a night of fun games and shark facts.

Day 4

More time to spend Surface and Ocean Floor diving – there is no time limit in the cages, as long as everyone has their fair share. You can also do some Shark and Wildlife watching from the observation deck, relax with a book – anything that floats your boat. Leave the Neptune Islands by 3:00pm and enjoy some lovely local South Australian ‘wine on the bow’ usually with common dolphins joining us for company. We arrive back in Port Lincoln by 8.00PM for guests to disembark. Dinner is provided onboard.

*Itinerary is indicative only (subject to weather and any other circumstances that may affect the scheduling of the various events).

NB: You need to book a 3-night Great White Shark liveaboard dive trip to include a guaranteed ocean floor cage dive. Cooler Months: May to September. This is the most reliable time of year to see the most (and the biggest!) Great White Sharks, especially the mature female sharks measuring over 5m. The days and daylight hours are shorter, so there is less surface cage time which is why the expeditions are longer in Autumn and Winter. You can book 3-night, 4-night and even 5-night Great White Shark liveaboard dive trips at this time year. NB: The weather / water is a little ‘rougher’ at this time and timings may vary.
