Rainbow Beach is located in South East  Queensland on the Fraser Coast approximately three hours from Brisbane.

The Dive Location

Their primary destination is Wolf Rock, which is perhaps best known for its large resident population of grey nurse sharks. Apart from the sharks, which are impressive, this dive site delivers a range of marine creatures which will appeal to all scuba divers. We’re talking giant Queensland gropers, manta rays, leopard sharks, three (3) species of marine turtles and much, much more.

Wolf Rock the dive site itself is comprised of four volcanic pinnacles.

Dive depth varies from 35m to 11m. The pinnacles are covered with a range of hard and soft corals and are home to a diverse array of temperate and sub-tropical species, including octopus, sea stars, nudibranchs and more.

Wolf Rock Dive is run by a tight knit crew who have spent most of their professional lives working in the dive industry. There’s daily departures and small numbers. Minimum of two divers and maximum of six.

Grey Nurse Sharks (Season)

The Grey Nurse is found along the East Coast of Australia from Wolf Rock here in South East Queensland to Narooma on the south coast of New South Wales. With the dive site at Wolf Rock identified as one of only 4 known aggregation sites for these Sharks in Queensland and the only known gestation aggregation zone on the entire East Coast of Australia shark sightings can be all year round.  The large majority of Grey Nurse Sharks  encountered here are pregnant to varying degrees and each female individual has the capacity to stay on the site for the length of the pregnancy period (between 9 and 12 months) before heading south to pup.

Male Grey Nurse Sharks are sighted from late autumn to early summer as they make their way from southern waters to breed.
