Sail Ningaloo operates on the Ningaloo Reef from Coral Bay – Late February to October, inclusive.

5 Nights – Ningaloo Escape

Wanting more than this 5 nights and 6 days exploring some of the more remote reef locations Ningaloo Reef has to offer.  The extra time allows you to explore some of the most magical and varied coral outcrops to be found on the Ningaloo Reef, sailing over 70km between Coral Bay & Norwegian Bay where no other tour accesses. On what can only be described as a marine safari!

8 Nights – Ultimate Ningaloo

This ultimate experience combines the 3 Night and 5 Night trip itineraries to give you the absolute best of Ningaloo Reef.

The Vessel

Sail Ningaloo’s vessel ‘Shore Thing’ is a purpose built, 51ft liveaboard sailing catamaran with four beautifully appointed private cabins, with a large central saloon area, a fully shaded entertaining deck, elevated fly bridge with 360° views and an expansive
front deck with double trampoline nets for relaxing.

The cabin setup onboard is suited to couples. (If you are travelling alone then you will need to book the cabin completely for sole use).

Being a catamaran Shore Thing is extremely comfortable and stable, both at sea and at anchor. With a shallow draft Shore Thing is an ideal vessel for accessing the many spectacular shallow inner reef lagoons and assures easy inner reef access for
calm anchorage in all weather conditions.

Cabins

Accommodation on board is orientated toward small numbers (maximum of 8-10, depending on configurations)

2 x Stateroom King cabins with full ensuite (Stateroom cabin configurations are flexible – King, twin or double bed with additional single bunk)

2 Deluxe double bed cabins with private facilities located just outside each cabin.

All cabins feature air-conditioning, fan, reading lights and power points.

The destination is the beautiful Sandy Point and Pelican Point Sanctuary, perfect places to explore the shallow reef lagoons either by kayak, scuba diving or by donning a mask, snorkel and fins.

Enjoy walking along sparkling white beaches and viewing turtles in their natural feeding grounds.  Dugongs can also be seen on occasions grazing on seagrass beds and inquisitive Dolphins can often be seen chasing fish throughout the clear water. Between June and November, Humpback Whales are a common sight on the outer reef, as they make their way north on their annual migration and return south with their calves for the summer.

You will experience spectacular dense coral formations that surround Coral Bay.  Your adventure will see you sailing along Batemans Bay, home to a population of majestic Manta Rays. Visit Point Cloates, where there are numerous turtles swimming and feeding in the shallow waters. We may get to step foot on Fraser Island, the Ningaloo Reef’s only sand island visible only at low tide!

All expeditions explore the pristine Ningaloo Reef Marine Park, where there will be plenty of opportunities to view turtles, dolphins, dugongs, whales (seasonal) without even getting in the water! Then just imagine the thrill of what you may discover when you don a mask, snorkel and a pair of fins! There will be plenty of time to experience scuba diving, kayaking or to find a perfect snorkelling lagoon or that stunning secluded beach. Enjoy glorious sunsets over the Indian Ocean while indulging in a little me time.

Departures / Pickups

  • Tours all start at 4.00 pm on departure day and return approx. 12:30 pm on the return day
  • Airport transfers from Exmouth can be organised (Additional Charges Apply, see Extras*)

“Shore Thing” is the only liveaboard trip operating from Coral Bay, Western Australia so it is advised to plan well in advance. Please contact us for scheduled departure dates and pricing.

Please bring all personal items in a soft bag for easy stowage.

  • Personal toiletries and medications, including sea-sickness medication if in doubt
  • Sun Protection – hat, polarized sunglasses, sun smart clothing, sunscreen, water bottle to refill
  • Swimming attire, rash shirt, camera
  • Casual lightweight/quick dry clothing is recommended, layers will be appreciated during winter/spring
  • Warm &/or windproof jacket as can sometimes be a bit chilly when windy (especially end May – October)
  • Footwear (reef sandals or flip-flops okay) for 5 & 8 night tours
  • Please feel free to bring your own snorkel/dive equipment if it fits well
  • Scuba Diving – Only tanks & weights are provided. Scuba Diving equipment can be arrange so please advise us at time of booking.
  • Any on board expenses (such as alcoholic drinks & merchandise) can be paid with cash, bank transfer or Credit Card (CC payments attract a surcharge). Whilst tipping is not an expected custom in Australia, if you do wish to express your gratitude to your crew by way of a gratuity then cash is the preferred method.

Accommodation, Airport Transfers and Extra Services

Pre/post accommodation, additional day tours, scenic flights and airport transfers are not included in the tour price, however we are happy to assist you by tailor-making a unique Ningaloo holiday itinerary that ticks all your boxes.

At certain times of the year, especially during West Australian school holidays, Coral Bay and Exmouth accommodation can be fully booked so we recommend to secure your pre/post accommodation as far in advance as possible.

Activities

Snorkelling in the protected reef lagoons – scuba diving and kayaking peaceful
lagoons or to a secluded beach – observing marine life in their natural environment, photographing the beautiful natural surrounds including underwater photography, star gazing – beach combing or just plain relaxing – surrounded by the pristine beauty of the Ningaloo Reef Marine Park.

All activities focus on the reef, natural environment, cultural and historical aspects of the area, specialising in guided interpretive activities.

When to visit

March – June (Manta rays, dolphins, dugongs and whale sharks)
This time of year is cool in the mornings with an offshore breeze and warm during the day. Average water temperature is 23-28°C, daytime air temperature is between 26-35°C.

This time of year is warm during the day and cool in the mornings and evenings. Average water temperature is 21-25°C, daytime air temperature is between 24-30°C. This is when the humpback whales are regularly sighted as well as manta rays and
dolphins.

Coral Bay is approximately 1200km (by road) north of Perth and 150km south of Exmouth We can happily assist with organising accommodation in Coral Bay and Exmouth, or suggest other tours/places to see whilst in the area Complimentary transfer from all Coral Bay accommodation to the Coral Bay jetty (where you will board Shore Thing) is included Enquire about "dedicated diving" Ningaloo Escape Tours for certified scuba divers only (specific dates) where 3-4 dives are done each day rather than 1-2 dives per day plus snorkelling on the regular Ningaloo Escape Tours Please bring all personal luggage in soft bags for easy stowage (no hard suitcases etc) Tanks, weights and weightbelts are included, however BCD and regulators are an additional fee to hire and must be booked in advanced *( $120 for 4 Day / 3 Night, $180 for 6 Day / 5 Night and $280 for 10 Day / 9 Night) Airport transfers between Learmonth Airport and Coral Bay are available to meet all scheduled tours for an additional $90 per person / each way - please enquire when booking!

As Shore Thing operates in a remote area mobile reception is intermittent (Telstra and limited Optus coverage only). There is no Internet or telephone system on the vessel. In case of emergency family/friends can contact the vessel via +61 458 822 895 and the staff will endeavour to contact the vessel through a radio system.
In the event of a cancellation up to 30 days prior to departure date, no refund is given. Cancellations over 30 days prior to departure date will receive an 80% refund. As a small seasonal tour operator, our business depends on maximising occupancy and cancellations often result in empty seats. Where full payment has been made and we can re-sell the ticket before departure, we will refund your payment less 20%
Tour date amendments are classified as a cancellation. To avoid any miscommunication, cancellations or amendments over the phone will then be requested via email.
Sail Ningaloo Pty Ltd requests that travellers are in good health to participate on our tours. Please inform us if you have any medical or physical conditions. Shore Thing carries an extensive medical kit on board for your well being and also carries general first aid kits in its tender and on all excursions. Please bring sufficient supply of personal medication on board, including seasickness medication and paracetamol.
Children Whilst Shore Thing is a great vessel for families to enjoy various activities, it is not recommended for children under the age of 7 years old, however if booking an exclusive charter, younger children may be considered.
